How To Make Your Pregnancy Easier This Summer

Finding out that you are pregnant can be one of the most exciting times of your life. However, there are many parts of pregnancy that can be uncomfortable, including morning sickness and back pain. Unfortunately, if you are pregnant over the duration of the summer, you have a few more challenges to deal with thanks to the heat. To help you stay a bit more comfortable, healthy, and safe this summer while pregnant, here are a few things you should do.

Stay Hydrated

Hydration is incredibly important during pregnancy, regardless of the season. However, it is even more important throughout the summertime. Dehydration can lead to dizziness and fatigue, both of which are unpleasant when you are pregnant. To ensure that you are drinking plenty of water, consider keeping a reusable water bottle with you and sip on it periodically throughout the day.

Wear Loose, Lightweight Clothing

When it comes to comfort during the summer, the type of clothes that you wear will play a significant role in how you feel. Ideally, you will want to choose breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics like cotton and linen. Clothing that you would wear when you go to the gym to work out is great. Make sure to avoid any fabrics that are synthetic and hug your body, as they will hold the heat in and cause you to feel warmer. You should also opt for lighter-colored clothing as opposed to darker-colored clothing, as they'll keep you cooler when you are outdoors.

Go for a Dip in the Pool

During the summer, going swimming is a way that you can relax and cool off. Plus, swimming is a great way to relieve some of the pressure on your back and legs. If you are sitting poolside, make sure to sit in the shade, even if that means that you may not get that desired shade of tan this year.

Head Outside During the Cooler Hours

You will want to avoid going outside during the hottest part of the day, which is generally between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. If you need to be outdoors, either for chores, errands, or activities, make sure to do so first thing in the morning or late afternoon. If the temperatures get too high, stay inside where it is cool, and if you must go outdoors, try to stay in the shade as much as you can.

Take Frequent Naps

Due to the hormonal changes that your body is going through, you are going to feel tired. Unfortunately, the hot weather is going to cause you to feel even more fatigued. If you get too tired, do not hesitate to lie down and take a nap; you deserve it!
